Portland, OR (I live in the Portland metro area) has hit 113F, breaking the previous high of 112, which was set yesterday (Sunday), and which broke the previous high of 108, which was set the day before yesterday. I'm on the south side of the metro area, and I think we're a degree hotter. They're calling it a "once in a thousand year event." This is four months and one week after the "generational" ice storm that crushed trees on my property (and all over the metro area) with inches-thick layers of ice. Four months and one week ago we were shivering in the dark and I was chainsawing my way through fallen, ice-covered trees to be able to get off my property... and now we're huddled inside around our one portable AC trying to keep the heat out.
