AKSHUALLY (aging wiccan pushes glasses up on nose), that may have been the whole point of the broomstick and 'flying ointment,' which included hallucinogenic ingredients such as jimsonweed.

You're not a loose cannon, you're more like a bomb... ;-)

Goody Cromwell was wearing eyeglasses in old Salem? That's pretty forward thinking of her, considering the first vision correcting lenses we would recognize as "eyeglasses" were invented in around 1600. The earliest known vision correcting lenses come from the late 1200's but for a few centuries they were quite different. Early corrective lenses were more similar to what we today would call "Pince-nez" glasses, and did not stay on the face very well. Something you held up to your face to read rather than something you wore.

Old Salem would have been considered extremely frontier in the 1600's, while people wearing glasses at the time would mostly be confined to metropolitan European cities. The only real evidence we have of people wearing glasses prior to that are descriptions by Catholic clergy, who were quite open to adopting new technology that allowed them to read scripture and other religious documents. The Puritans in Salem were less open to such devices.

Oh, my mistake. You said "1761," which would have been about the time Benjamin Franklin was inventing bifocals.

Mea culpa.

Yep, "old" as in "pre-Revolutionary War," not the witch trial era. Faneuil Hall actually burned down less than 20 years after it was built in 1742; for now we can only speculate on what Goody Cromwell was up to. For now...

I think what fooled me was the stereotypical Puritan outfits. Not actually what women were wearing in the 18th century.

I guess I was aiming more for... stereotypical witch outfits? Witch families tend to be a bit retro in certain lifestyle (including fashion) choices. Note the names, and Elspeth's family aesthetic.

My complaint was a case of me being an incurable pedant. Pay no attention to me and draw more nekked witches.

But now I can't stop thinking about what sort of clothes they're NOT wearing when they're nekked! I must research it more!

You'd think the Puritans would have been insistent on people wearing glasses to 'better read the Scriptures'...
Except they were much more content with people letting them tell them what they 'really' meant...

I assume all you fellow perverts are familiar with the Harry Potter Nimbus 2000 flying broomstick toy?
