Yeah, a lot of work into those background elements... some is repurposed concept art, but I created that poster just for this use (and then reused it later... shameless). Oooh, I forget who recommend this to me, but I used MediBangPaintPro to create the poster... I've started using it for some elements. Handy.

A word from our sponsor…
Producing this webcomic for a pace of four updates takes a lot of time... and it's not cheap for me, what with paper, ink and pens (going all digital would be even more spendy). A little support would help defray costs and make sure I can justify spending money on art supplies and taking time away from the money-earning grind. Everyone gets access to high-rez sketches, and there will be some special bonuses and behind-the-scenes art connected to Star Warp (coming up soon). Higher levels of support get original art, a reduced rate on commissions, and other goodies. If you can help out with a minimum of $3 a month (or a little more... or set a custom pledge, I'm not picky) please check it out right here (and the widget is always available above). Heck, even if you can't pledge check it out - there's some art there unlocked for everyone, and I'd appreciate feedback on the levels and the premiums I'm offering. And if you can’t support my Patreon, maybe support the Comic Fury Patreon to keep this whole site going?

I might have been the one who mentioned MediBang. I think you were complaining about your old program not working anymore or something. For years I used an old version of Photoshop on an old computer that finally gave up the ghost and tried a bunch of free art programs and MediBang worked the best for me. There's still some things I miss from Photoshop that MediBang doesn't do, but I've learned to adapt.

I'm pretty sure it was you! The copy of PS Elements I have is still working, but MediBang has proven to be very handy.

Are those tribbles on the bookshelf, 'safety' bowling balls or fuzzy slippers ? ;)

The original; (possibly subconscious?) inspiration for tribbles: Martian flat cats.

David Gerrold, who wrote the episode The Trouble With Tribbles has said that the inspiration for them came from the rabbit infestation of Australia in the late 1800's. It was only later that someone pointed out to him the resemblance to Heinlein's Flat Cats. To avoid problems, they sent a copy of the script to Bob (Heinlein) who replied "...the analogy to my flat cats was mild enough to be of no importance."

It kind of makes me wonder where Bob came up with such a similar idea. However he seems to have considered them a fairly minor plot device and not worth the trouble of making a fuss over.

Gerrold's admitted he probably read The Rolling Stones, but didn't remember the flat cats and wasn't consciously copying it. Heinlein admits he was inspired by Pigs is Pigs, a short story where the exponentially multiplying critters were guinea pigs,

I did not know that. Thank you.

Since I switched to Linux I've relied on a combination of Krita and GIMP. Neither one is a complete Photoshop replacement, but between the two of them I'm more or less covered.

That said, I have yet to find a really good replacement for Illustrator. Libre Office Draw is close, but no cigar. However it's a surprisingly good page layout program. Probably not as good as InDesign, but possibly better than Scribus.

It's a good poster.

He'll never believe Uber ever existed once he finds out what it is.
